.: WYD08 Theme Song :.

All International level World Youth Day celebrations (except in 1984) have their own Theme Song or Anthem, which is, of course, related to the Theme of the celebration. In 1985, when the World Youth Day was celebrated in Rome, Italy. The theme was International Youth Year and its corresponding anthem was Resta Qui Con Noi. The next celebration was in Buenos Aires, Argentina on 1987. Its theme was We ourselves have known and put our faith in God’s love towards ourselves and Un Nuevo Sol was its anthem. Two years later, the celebration found its way to Santiago de Compostela, Spain, having I am the Way, the Truth and the Life and Somos Los Jóvenes as its theme and anthem. Two more years passed and the World Youth Day was celebrated in Czestochowa, Poland with You have received a spirit of sonship as its theme and Abba Ojcze as its anthem. I came that they might have life, and have it to the full was the theme of the World Youth Day celebration in Denver, USA and its anthem was (We Are) One Body. In 1995, the World Youth Day celebration held the current world record for the largest Papal gathering as 4,000,000 people flocked into Manila, Philippines. The theme at that time was As the Father sent me, so am I sending you and the anthem was Tell the World of His Love, which, if I may say so, has got to be one of the most popular songs in Philippine History. As the celebration continues, the delegates find themselves in the city of love - Paris, France. The theme was Teacher, where are you staying? Come and see and the anthem was Maître Et Seigneur. Three years after and the World Youth Day celebration find itself co-celebrating the 2nd Millenium. It was celebrated again in Rome with the theme of The Word became flesh and dwelt among us and the anthem of Emmanuel. Two more years after and the celebration is held at Toronto, Canada where the theme was You are the salt of the earth ... you are the light of the World and the anthem was Lumière Du Monde/Light Of The World. And in 2005, the World Youth Day was celebrated in Cologne, Germany where 1,200,000 people gathered under the theme of We have come to worship Him, all singing Venimus Adorare Eum.

Finally, this year 2008, the World Youth Day comes to the land down under, to the land where the Southern Cross lays. On July 15-20, an estimated 500,000 young people from around the globe are expected to participate in the pilgrimage to Sydney, Australia. The theme for WYD08 comes from Acts 1:8. 'You will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you; and you will be my witnesses.' And the anthem for this year is 'Receive the Power' performed by Guy Sebastian and Paulini.

Here are the lyrics to Receive the Power:

VERSE 1
Every nation, every tribe,
come together to worship You.
In Your presence we delight:
we will follow
to the ends of the earth.

CHORUS
Alleluia, Alleluia!
Receive the power, from the Holy Spirit!
Alleluia, Alleluia!
Receive the power to be a light unto the world.

VERSE 2
As Your Spirit calls to rise
we will answer and do Your will.
We’ll forever testify
of Your mercy and unfailing love.

REPEAT CHORUS

BRIDGE
Lamb of God, we worship you.
Holy one, we worship you.
Bread of Life, we worship you.
Emmanuel, we worship you.

Lamb of God, we worship you.
Holy one, we worship you.
Bread of life, we worship you.
Emmanuel, we will sing forever:

REPEAT CHORUS
